Yeah, as long as they think God is directing the organization, they will think there is hope for it to morph into something other than what it is. A high control group. It is so important to fully understand what a cult is and how it operates to avoid wasting your life trying to change it.

JWs wouldn't preach despite multiple opportunities...
by EntirelyPossible ini was on a date tonight, eating in a cuban restaurant owned by jws (they have never met me, incidentally, the food was really good) when i realized that there was not just one, but two conventions in town.
one was the standard english speaking district convention folks, the other was the asl folks using the assembly hall in town for their district convention.. my date, who knows all about my jw past, tries to strike up a conversation with some of them sitting at the bar, asks them what they are in town for, etc.
they just said "for a convention".

Aw shucks! Those dubs ruined perfectly good opportunities to witness and have their experiences shared during the last convention talk on Sunday afternoon.

Yep you're right Jim. Every persecution event brings about more refinement for Jehovah's faithful ones. And increased buying power in the real estate market.

Do you try to "shape up" for Summer?

today's the day.
i didn't make it.. .

I don't try to shape up for summer per se. But once our midwest winter is over, I get back into a groove of walking, parks, swimming etc. I automatically feel better and shape up. I always have a summer obsession and perk up fashion wise.
This year it's summer hats and cute swimwear. I think the best thing about summer is being comfortable and uninhibited. Don't try to fit any standard except your own. Summer's way too short.
LOL on getting started a couple of days ago.

This made me awfully sad
by corpusdei injust came across this post, where a disfellowshipped blogger posted the letter from his witness mother in which she cuts off the relationship between them.
although i was the one to slam the door and cut off communication with my viper of a mother, my heart goes out to this guy - it's to their shame that the witnesses allow their religion to do this to family..

What struck me in that letter most was the selfish point of view.... "I - I - I -"
What a loving mother, only considering her feelings. The witnesses are uber self righteous , arrogant, judgmental and just plain WRONG.

Did anyone else get somewhat offended by the term "rank and file" that the WT attorney used.
by life is to short ini was just surprised by that term being used by jim mccabe when he said "jonathan kendrick was not a leader or a pastor, he was just a rank-and-file member.".
i thought that was only an apostate term and also what a put down to us lowly members.
we are just a rank-and-file person.

That comment shows the separation between the WT clergy and its laity class. Good job WT lawyer.

Just a casual glance around this forum shows that "apostates" are about as varied a bunch as you can get. The last thing most of us are trying to do is lock each other into yet another life-limiting concept or belief system.

From a currently serving elder: an open letter to the organization
by elderelite inthere are 1000's who who hate this religion who are stuck ....inside it.
we work against you, we use our position to convince and sway those that still drink your koolaid.
we feed info to authorities who chase you, we warn off potiential converts by directing them to the real truth.

My family has been in for many decades. I get it. But how does one work effectively from the inside? Posting on the internet, although an effective tool, isn't working from the inside out. Most have escaped WT without the internet. I would love to believe that it's possible to work from within to bring down this cult. But from my studies of cults, I've learned it's quite the opposite. Just asking from those who are doing it about their modus operandi.

No one is judging anyone's decision in this thread (unless I missed something). We are discussing this, not simply for our (the members of JWN) benefit but for anyone who reads the thread.
"Im actively tearing it down from the inside with their own tools, their own seal of approval, their own mantle of so called authority."
I fear this may come across as an attack or dare. It isn't. But I honestly want to know how you are doing this. ^
